On November 14, NetEase Smart News reported that yesterday, Baidu, Lifan Motors, and a new energy shared car platform held a strategic cooperation conference in Beijing. The collaboration aims to integrate Baidu Apollo’s open platform with Lifan Motors’ automotive manufacturing capabilities and the shared car platform’s operational experience.
The partnership is expected to focus on areas such as high-precision mapping and autonomous driving. By joining the Apollo open platform, Lifan Motors will significantly enhance its autonomous driving technology. The company will be responsible for vehicle production and will coordinate the use of test vehicles and commercially operated cars. Meanwhile, the shared car platform will provide real-world application scenarios, allowing all three parties to work together in accelerating the mass production and commercialization of self-driving shared vehicles.
During the press event, Lifan Motors unveiled its first self-driving shared car, which is equipped with Baidu Apollo’s autonomous driving solution. The vehicle is set to enter the market gradually in the coming months. Gu Weiyi, General Manager of Baidu’s Smart Car Division, emphasized that shared mobility is one of the most promising applications for autonomous driving technology. This collaboration marks an important step in bringing self-driving solutions into the real world, with significant potential for both business and societal impact.
This partnership not only strengthens Baidu’s position in the autonomous driving space but also helps Lifan Motors expand into the cutting-edge field of smart mobility. As the industry moves toward more intelligent and connected transportation systems, such collaborations are likely to become increasingly common, shaping the future of urban mobility and ride-sharing services around the globe.
