Globalization of the TD-LTE industry: 47 operators confirmed investment and testing

On the morning of August 10th, Beijing time, the Global Mobile Suppliers Association (GSA) reported in its latest "Global LTE TDD Market Development Status" report that there are already 9 commercial LTE TDD (commonly known as TD-LTE) commercial networks in the world There are 38 operators that have confirmed investment and are testing TD-LTE networks, a total of 47.

TD-LTE is becoming mainstream

According to GSA statistics, 9 commercial TD-LTE networks in the world are Saudi Mobily, Saudi Telecom (STC), Brazil Sky, Softbank of Japan, NBN of Australia, Aero2 of Poland, Sweden 3, Pakistan Telecom of India and UK Broadband of the UK.

38 operators that have identified investments and are testing TD-LTE networks in 23 countries in Oceania, Europe, North America, Asia, Africa, and South America, including Hutchison, France Telecom, Vodafone, KPN, MTS, Singapore Telecom , MegaFon and other global TOP 50 operators.

The good development momentum of the TD-LTE industry has also attracted the attention of major research institutions. Ovum believes that TD-LTE has gradually become the mainstream. It is expected that by 2016, the global number of TD-LTE connections will account for a quarter of LTE. Investment bank Goldman Sachs also believes that TD-LTE is attracting the attention of global operators. TD-LTE benefits from the scale advantages of the LTE FDD and 3G industry chain, and its development will be much smoother than TD-SCDMA. ABI Research estimates that global TD-LTE subscribers will increase from 1 million at the end of 2012 to 139 million in 2017. The InfoneTIcs 2012Q1 report predicts that by 2016, based on equipment sales revenue, TDD and FDD will account for nearly 70%.

Spectrum utilization becomes a key factor

The GSA report shows that TD-LTE, as an important branch of LTE technology, is gaining global market share. According to the report, TD-LTE's performance characteristics and efficient spectrum utilization rate are comparable to LTE FDD, and TD-LTE can be deployed in IMT frequency bands allocated to mobile communications worldwide. The largest continuous frequency band is 2.3GHz (up to 100MHz), followed by 2.6GHz (up to 50MHz). These bands are used by TD-LTE networks in Europe, India, China and other Asia-Pacific regions.

China also has the frequency band 39 (1880-1920 MHz) available for TD-LTE network deployment. In the United States, operators use the frequency band 41 (2496-2690 MHz) for the large-scale deployment of TD-LTE networks. The U.S. telecommunications regulator FCC also considers to allocate the frequency band 3.5 GHz to 100 MHz for high-speed data broadband services. In the UK, the frequency bands used by operators ’TD-LTE networks are the 124 MHz spectrum at 3.5 and 3.6 GHz.

According to the GSA report, due to the increasing global demand for radio spectrum, asymmetric spectrum is being favored. TD-LTE and LTE FDD share the same door. The former benefits from the latter's economies of scale, and TD-LTE has become a global market in a short time. The approved next-generation evolution technology also provides WiMAX operators with an excellent evolution route. In the future, the pressure on spectrum resources will continue. GSA recommends that operators choose the most efficient technology that suits them.

Complete ecosystem: 68 terminals have been reached

GSA's "LTE Ecosystem" report distributed on July 3 this year shows that 67 manufacturers worldwide have released 417 LTE-enabled terminal devices, including 83 smartphones and 31 tablet computers.

Many LTE terminal devices support both TDD and FDD systems, and support multiple backup technologies in areas not yet covered by LTE, such as HSPA, HSPA +, DC-HSPA +, CDMA EVDO, and TD-SCDMA.

All major chip and equipment manufacturers around the world have commercially available TD-LTE dongle and CPE. As of the date of the report, a total of 68 terminal devices can be operated on the TD-LTE network, and some devices support more than one TDD frequency band at the same time.

The report shows that Band 40 (2300MHz) and Band 38 (2600MHz) have the largest ecosystem of TD-LTE terminal equipment. As of now, there are 53 TD-LTE terminals supporting band 40, 59 TD-LTE terminals supporting band 38, and 5 models supporting band 41 (2600MHz).

Development milestone

Compared with TD-SCDMA, TD-LTE, the second technology standard led by China Mobile, has made great progress and has the potential to reach the world. This has made every breakthrough in the TD-LTE ecosystem much concerned.

At present, the largest TD-LTE network in the world has been deployed by Softbank of Japan. Softbank has divided the network construction into three phases with a total scale of tens of thousands of base stations. Softbank chose Huawei and ZTE as the two major suppliers, and the proportion of the two manufacturers to build Basically split in half. Softbank plans to increase the number of TD-LTE base stations to 12,000 by March next year, completing 92% of the population.

The world's first large-scale LTE FDD / TDD dual-mode commercial network is deployed in Sweden and Huang, which is also the first large-scale commercial TD-LTE network in Europe. Hehuang plans to cover this dual-mode network with 85% of Sweden's population. Exclusive construction.

South Asia ’s first commercial TD-LTE network was deployed by India ’s Bharti Telecommunications. Kolkata, India ’s third largest city built by ZTE, had its first commercial use on April 10 this year, and other regions are also about to welcome LTE commercial use. Bati Telecom plans to cover TD-LTE signals in Mumbai and Delhi this year, and increase the number of TD-LTE base stations to 7000. It is planned to complete the deployment of TD-LTE network by 2013.

The world's largest TD-LTE test network is deployed by China Mobile. The second phase of the test network will be expanded to 14 cities. The construction scale of each city is different. According to the latest plan of China Mobile, Guangzhou built by ZTE will become the largest TD-LTE in the country. Testnet.

The first domestic TD-LTE commercial network and the largest TD-LTE government private network were opened in May this year. Beijing TD-LTE government IoT data private network plans to complete the construction of all private network projects during the 12th Five-Year Plan period ZTE is responsible for the network construction of more than a thousand base stations.

The construction of the first LTE TDD / FDD dual-mode network in Asia-Pacific will also become China Mobile's first officially commercial TD-LTE network, built by ZTE and Ericsson. This network is interpreted as a test field for China Mobile to explore TD-LTE operations The trailer for TD-LTE launched on a large scale.
