This asphalt levitation tester is designed and manufactured in accordance with national industry standards, specifically following the requirements outlined in "JTJ052: Testing Procedures for Asphalt and Asphalt Mixtures for Highway Engineering" and "T0631: Asphalt Floatation Test". It is used to measure the floatation properties of residues such as asphalt residue and coal tar after distillation of slow-setting liquid petroleum pitch.

The device measures the time it takes for a sample to gradually soften and then break through the water in a specified floater. This time is recorded in seconds (s). Unless otherwise specified, the test temperature for the residue after distillation of liquid petroleum pitch is typically set at 50°C, while for coal tar, the test temperature can be either 32°C or 50°C, depending on the specific application.

In addition to its primary function, the instrument can also serve as a constant temperature water bath when not used for asphalt floatation testing, offering added versatility for laboratory use.
