Skyworth LCD TV model 32L16SW had a red light issue and the power output for 5V was only 3.5V. After replacing two 470UF/10V capacitors, the voltage increased and the TV started up. At first, I thought the backlight problem was fixed, but the screen remained gray-blue with no visible characters. The motherboard was already providing 12V to the logic board, so it wasn't that simple.

When something went wrong again, the TV turned off, and I stopped the repair. After reworking, the backlight started flashing. The 5V, 12V, and 24V outputs were slightly low—measured at 4.5V, 10V, and 22V respectively. Removing the aluminum cover revealed a swollen 16V 470UF capacitor on the 12V power supply. However, even after replacing it, the issue remained unchanged.

I then removed the primary power supply cover and found a swollen 400V 10UF capacitor. Could this be the cause? No—it didn’t help even after replacement. Continuing the check, I measured the PFC large capacitor voltage at 300V, but during testing, C84 (25V 100UF) showed no capacity. Replacing it brought the PFC voltage up to 370V, and the power supply voltages stabilized. However, the image still didn’t appear.

I checked both the motherboard and the logic board but couldn’t find any issues. As a test, I tried writing LG screen data (memory 24C32), and finally, a blue screen appeared! I was happy to see some image, but there were strange characters on the screen. Was the data written incorrectly? The screen model was under a cover, so I couldn’t check it directly. It didn’t matter—I had CMO screen data in hand and tried again. Still, the same letters appeared. It was impossible for both sets of data to be wrong.

I looked for a Skyworth universal remote control. When I used it to turn off the TV (the button had no standby function), the strange letters disappeared. The audio signal and video signal seemed normal. I’m still trying to figure out what’s going on here.
