In the aftermath of the Nantai Strong Earthquake, manufacturers in the Nanke area have made significant progress in their recovery efforts. On the 9th, TSMC reported that its 6th and 14B plants have fully resumed operations, while the 14A plant is expected to return to normal within two or three days. Meanwhile, UMC has already reached a stable operational level, and QunChuang's seven factories have recovered over 80% of their capacity, with full resumption anticipated within the next week.
The earthquake not only caused structural damage in Tainan but also triggered protective measures across several facilities. Sun Youwen, Director of Corporate Communications at TSMC, stated that the recovery progress has been in line with expectations. While the 14A plant suffered more severe damage and continues to work on recovery, it is expected to return to full operation soon. The company has been closely coordinating with customers, and once full capacity is restored, it plans to replenish orders during the quarter, with minimal impact—less than 1%—on wafer shipments for the first quarter.
Taiwan’s stock market was closed for the Lunar New Year holiday, so the earthquake’s effects were not reflected in local trading. However, TSMC’s ADR dropped over 1% in the U.S. market on the 9th.
UMC noted that its Nanke plant has returned to a normal production level. Since this is the off-season, the current utilization rate is around 70%, slightly below its usual levels.
Innolux shared that its seven factories in Nanke are now operating at over 80% capacity, with full resumption expected within a week. To meet urgent delivery needs, some products have been shifted to the Zhunan factory, ensuring no disruption in shipments.
Lin Weicheng, Director of Nanke Management, confirmed that water and electricity supplies in the industrial park remain stable. The team maintains daily communication with affected manufacturers and is ready to provide full support if needed.
