Intel Discontinues 5 Series Chipsets

Intel Discontinues 5 Series Chipsets We have previously reported that Intel discontinued production of some LGA 775 and LGA 1156 processors, but will continue to produce a few models of the LGA 775 and LGA 1156 processors until July and August next year.

Now, we have learned that Intel has officially shut down its 5-series chipset supporting the LGA 1156 processor yesterday.

Intel has stopped accepting orders for 5-series chipsets since this month, including the H55, H57, P55, and Q57 chipsets. However, Intel will still produce a few models of LGA 1156 processors for users with 5-series chipsets until the third quarter of next year. It is estimated that Intel will ship the last batch of LGA 1156 processors in December 2012.

The 5 series chipset R&D codename Ibex Peak is released with the first Core i series processors code-named Lynnfield and Clarkdale.
