Facebook Acquires Nascent Objects to Accelerate Development of Hardware Prototypes

You may not have heard that Facebook is moving into the hardware industry. The Facebook social network is building a large number of wireless drones, data servers and virtual reality goggles—in addition to providing services such as repairing baby pictures and watching politician speeches.

In order to develop these hardware prototypes faster, Facebook announced on Monday that it will acquire Nascent Objects, a small Silicon Valley start-up company that can produce tools that help accelerate the construction of physical hardware prototypes. The trading terms of the two companies have not yet been announced.

This emerging company will join Facebook's secret hardware development project, Building 8.

"Imagine being able to design, build and complete a hardware product in a matter of weeks instead of spending months, or even years, doing it," said Regina Dugan, leader of Building 8 at his home page. "We will work together and hope that we can develop a hardware product as quickly as we want to develop software."

Facebook officials declined to comment too much on the acquisition.
