China Telecom Hosts Terminal Industry Partner Conference to set the tone for 2016 new terminals

On January 19, 2016, China Telecom and Qualcomm held the China Telecom Terminal Industry Partner Conference. The event focused on the theme "Internet + Drive Terminal Innovation," bringing together nearly 1,000 representatives from leading domestic and international terminal manufacturers, e-commerce platforms, mobile phone design companies, and industry partners including distributors and after-sales service providers. During the conference, Yang Jie, General Manager of China Telecom Group, highlighted that in 2016, the company would expand its 4G+ network coverage nationwide and continue launching VoLTE services. China Telecom also emphasized the promotion of the six-mode "Full Netcom" as a national standard, aiming to provide consumers with "one device, three networks" solutions and co-launch more "Tianyi 4G+" terminals. Qualcomm President Derek Aboli stated that 4G+ technology would bring greater capacity and performance for both users and operators. According to Strategy Analytics, carrier aggregation—key to 4G+—was expected to become a standard feature in carrier networks. China was predicted to be the world's largest producer of carrier aggregation terminals in 2016. In July 2015, China Telecom and Qualcomm had already launched the "Tianyi Terminal Trading Expo and Summit Forum," where the "Tianyi 4G+" brand was officially introduced, and Nubia became the first device to support China Telecom’s 4G+ business. In 2015, numerous 4G+ devices powered by Qualcomm processors were released, such as LeTV Super Mobile Music 1 Pro, Le Max, Xiaomi Note Top Edition, Xiaomi 4c, HTC One A9, Moto X Style, and Nubia Z9 models. Most 4G+ devices used Qualcomm’s modulation and demodulation solutions. Qualcomm supports advanced technologies like carrier aggregation across all levels of its Opteron processors. The Snapdragon 820, for instance, features an LTE-A Cat.12 downlink and Cat.13 uplink, offering speeds up to 600 Mbps download and 150 Mbps upload. It also integrates Wi-Fi technologies like MU-MIMO and tri-band 802.11ac/802.11ad for superior connectivity. Qualcomm is not only supporting high-end devices but also expanding 4G+ capabilities to mid-range and low-end platforms. The company has over 80 Snapdragon 820-based devices in development. Beyond 4G+, Qualcomm’s "Qianlong Quantong" concept meets and exceeds operator requirements, supporting all seven network modes, various dual-SIM combinations, and full-mode voice and data convergence. China Telecom also emphasized the Internet of Things (IoT) as a key strategic area under the "Internet +" policy. The company aims to develop IoT through product intensification, sales specialization, and system support, focusing on sectors like logistics and transportation. Qualcomm showcased its vision for future technologies, including 5G, which will enable new architectures for connected devices. With lower latency, higher reliability, and better energy efficiency, 5G will drive innovations in autonomous vehicles, telemedicine, smart cities, and wearable tech. At the event, Qualcomm also demonstrated how mobile technology could transform industries like drones, smart homes, and healthcare. For example, the YING drone, developed by Tencent and Zero Intelligence, uses the Qualcomm Snapdragon Flight platform, enabling 4K video capture and real-time streaming to social media. As the IoT era advances, Qualcomm continues to lead in shaping the future of connected devices and experiences.
