Non-negligible atmospheric pressure indicators in electronic product design

In electronic products, the most common expression of atmospheric pressure is 750-1060 hPa (among others, mmHg and mbar), which is a common and easily overlooked role. Even if many manufacturers write it, they actually turn a blind eye to their concerns, but this indicator is indeed more than just a display. In the past few days, this phenomenon has unfortunately been repeated in the tragedy of a big company with a global ranking of 100 (or even the top 50).

As we all know, the atmospheric pressure at sea level is 1060mmH2O, and as the altitude increases, the altitude increases every 100m, and the atmospheric pressure will fall at a slope of 11.2mbar (1120Pa). In this case, 750hPa corresponds to an altitude of about 2700m. Xining in Qinghai is basically this elevation. In other words, this method of labeling cannot be used in areas above Xining. Even if it is barely usable, the failure mechanism will greatly increase.

It is the purpose of this article to give a few examples, to illustrate the seriousness of the problem, and to arouse everyone’s awareness.

Atmospheric pressure changes. For devices with internal pressure, such as electrolytic capacitors, the internal heat needs to be emitted during operation, but when the heat is too large to be dissipated in time, the internal medium will thermally expand. When the altitude is low, Strong external pressure, even if the internal expansion, â–³ P will still be relatively small, the device shell is also sufficient to overcome this stress; but when the altitude is high, the external pressure is small, â–³ P will increase to enough to overcome the strength of the device shell At the time, cracking of the device is inevitable. To sum up, in a word, electrolytic capacitors at high altitudes are prone to explosion.

Another typical phenomenon is the equipment with air and water sources. There are pressure gas or pressure liquid in the pipe. Because of the change of altitude, the pressure difference between internal and external pressures will also cause the accuracy of the gas supply liquid to err or lead to explosion. The risk of leakage. Such as respiratory treatment equipment, sealing equipment (closed electrical switchgear) and so on.

It can be seen from the above that the atmospheric pressure indicator is still very useful and must not be ignored. Its impact is not only on the complete system, but also on the mechanical piping as well as on the device itself. Therefore, strictly control the scope of use of the equipment. , And do relevant experiments in the factory area to verify that the product does not cause problems due to pressure changes, otherwise, the product project does not know how to die when it dies.
