China's Concentrating Photovoltaic Enterprises Will Participate in the Formulation of International Standards

It is reported that Wang Shitao, chief technology officer of Shanghai Juheng Solar Energy Co., Ltd., passed the qualification review of the International Electrotechnical Commission and became a member of the International Electrotechnical Commission Photovoltaic Energy Committee Concentrated Photovoltaic Standards Working Group (IECTC82/WG7). This means that China Concentrating Photovoltaic Corporation is expected to break the monopoly of European and American companies in the formulation of product standards and to issue its own voice, which is of significance in promoting the participation of China Concentrating Enterprises in the international market competition.

Concentrating photovoltaics refers to the technology that converts concentrated sunlight directly into electrical energy through high conversion efficiency photovoltaic cells. The use of crystalline silicon cells and thin-film batteries for photoelectric conversion, respectively, is the first and second generation of solar energy utilization technology, has been widely used. The concentrating solar energy technology that uses the optical elements to converge sunlight and generate electricity is considered to be the third generation technology for the future development trend of solar power generation. Prior to this, when Wang Shitao attended the working group meeting as an observer in the United States, he had already proposed some revision opinions on the weather resistance test of sandstorm weather for the condensing photovoltaic IEC62108 standard, which was widely recognized by experts from various countries participating in the meeting. In September this year, the working group will hold a meeting in Germany. Wang Shitao will present new proposals on behalf of Chinese companies on the standard of concentrated photovoltaics.

As of the beginning of this century, nearly 20,000 international standards have been issued by the International Organization for Standardization and the International Electrotechnical Commission, but only 20 items have been formulated by Chinese enterprises. The absence of participation in the drafting and formulation process has led to a lack of understanding of the latest developments in the standard and it is difficult to track the development of technology. While developing new industries and actively participating in the formulation of international standards, we can gain more right to speak in the future.
