21ic News ON Semiconductor has introduced a new electrically erasable programmable read-only memory (EEPROM) device for the automotive, medical and consumer markets.

These EEPORM devices include high-density 512-kilobit (kb) CAT24C512 and 1 megabit (Mb) CAT24M01, all supporting a supply voltage range of 1.8 volts (V) to 5.5 V. CAT24C512 and CAT24M01 use 256 and 128 byte page write caches, respectively. Both devices support the Standard 100 kHz, Fast 400 kHz, and Fast-Plus 1 megahertz (MHz) serial I2C protocol. These devices are manufactured in a 0.18 micron (μm) low-power CMOS process from the Gresham facility owned and operated by ON Semiconductor.
In addition, the company has introduced a series of EEPROMs for automotive design that are AEC-Q100 certified. These devices operate from 2.5 V to 5.5 V and support the Standard and Fast I2C protocols. The 64 kb CAV24C64 and the 32 kb CAV24C32 both contain a 32-byte page write cache, while the 2 kb CAV24C02, the 4 kb CAV24C04, the 8 kb CAV24C08, and the 16 kb CAV24C16 all have a 16-byte page write cache. These devices are also manufactured in the 0.35 μm process from ON Semiconductor's Gresham plant.
All new EEPROM devices have a data retention period of 100 years and support 1 million program/erase cycles. These serial EEPROMs have an operating temperature range of −40 0C to +125 0C.
Later this year, more products will be added to the series, including high-density versions with SPI interfaces and automotive versions, complementing I2C interface products.

Packaging and price
The CAT24C512 and CAT24M01 are available in lead-free, RoHS-compliant SOIC-8, TSSOP-8 and PDIP-8 packages, priced at $0.90 per 10,000-piece CAT24C512 and $1.50 for the CAT24M01. The CAV24C02, CAV24C04, CAV24C08, CAV24C16, CAV24C32 and CAV24C64 are available in lead-free, RoHS-compliant TSSOP-8 and SOIC-8 packages and are priced from $0.27 to $0.67.
