NXP and Google Cloud use the new cloud IoT core to extend the reach and performance of Android Things

The core of the cloud IoT breaks down data islands, enabling smart cities to collect and analyze information remotely in order to improve transportation and urban services

Mountain View, California, USA, May 16, 2017 – NXP Semiconductors NV (NASDAQ: NXPI) announced today that NXP's Android Things platform can support the new Google Cloud Internet of Things The core, the latter is a fully managed service that allows users to connect and manage devices globally and simply and securely. The new cloud IoT core provides a variety of Google services to unlock the value of real-time IoT data for smart city planning and deployment.

Adam Massey, head of Google Cloud's strategic technology partner, said: "The cloud IoT core aims to simplify digital transformation and help customers make the most of Google Cloud's data analysis and machine learning capabilities, with insights from previously inaccessible operational data, real-time Take effective action. By working with industry leaders such as NXP, we have expanded our reach to help more customers realize the business value of connected devices."

NXP's Android Things platform is the result of early collaboration with Google, using the i.MX application processor to provide cost-effective and rich functionality for developers, manufacturers and OEMs. The platform is designed to enable stakeholders to quickly develop low-cost connected Internet of Things devices based on Android. Now, with the Google Cloud IoT core, enterprise and city developers can leverage the NXP platform to better build smart connected systems of devices that will be managed and deployed through Google Cloud.

Geoff Lees, senior vice president and general manager of the microcontroller business line at NXP, said: "In order to promote the smart experience on a large scale, an ecosystem of advanced endpoint devices must be built, and these devices must be seamlessly and securely connected to each other. Supporting the new Google Cloud IoT core, NXP enables developers to develop devices that meet the requirements of the IoT market, providing greater coverage, security, awareness and functionality needed by the market."

The Google Cloud IoT core includes a variety of services, such as Pub/Sub, Dataflow, Bigtable, BBigQuery, and Data Studio, providing a complete solution for real-time collection, processing, analysis, and visualization of IoT data to help improve operational efficiency. Key features of the new Google Cloud IoT core solution include:

● End-to-end security: End-to-end security with certificate-based authentication and TLS. All devices running Android Things or devices that meet the core security requirements of the Cloud IoT offer comprehensive security features.

● Data insights that are instantly available: Integrate with Google Big Data Analytics and machine learning services to leverage downstream analytics systems.

● Serverless infrastructure: On Google's serverless platform, use horizontal scaling to scale instantly and without restrictions.

● Role-level data control: Apply IAM roles to devices to control access to devices and data.

● Automatically deploy devices: Use the REST API to automatically manage the registration, deployment, and operation of devices in batches.
