Japan develops the latest energy-saving fluorescent lamps: no mercury


Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd. announced that it has cooperated with Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology to develop a new type of energy-saving fluorescent lamp that rejects mercury substances harmful to human body and that emits 1.5 times as bright as ordinary fluorescent lamps when consuming the same power. .

The principle of illumination of ordinary fluorescent lamps is that electrons generated by discharge between electrodes collide with mercury atoms in the glass tube, and the generated ultraviolet rays are illuminated on the phosphor to make them sensitized. Although ordinary fluorescent lamps contain very little mercury, they are a toxic substance that is easily absorbed by the skin and respiratory tract.

The newly developed fluorescent lamp of Matsushita Electric Works adopts a new working principle. It uses a nano silicon electron source and a helium gas that is harmless to the human body. The nano silicon electron source to which the voltage is applied can emit high-energy electrons in the helium gas. These electrons directly interact with the helium gas molecules. It acts to produce ultraviolet light, which can be converted into visible light when it is irradiated onto the phosphor. The new fluorescent lamp adopting this working principle consumes 1.5 times the brightness of ordinary fluorescent lamps under the same power consumption, and consumes much less power if it only achieves the illumination brightness of ordinary fluorescent lamps.
